Police officers on Friday barricaded roads leading to Kisumu State Lodge as protestors commenced demonstrations over the high cost of living. 

Police officers were manning the roadblocks as a police lorry and land cruiser were on standby.

Major traffic snarl-up was experienced at the Kondele roundabout as Azimio La Umoja supporters walked towards the CBD to woo others ahead of the protest. 

ODM Leader Raila Odinga had unlawfully declared Monday, March 20 a public holiday.

This, he said, is to allow Azimio supporters to travel to participate in the mass action against what he termed as an "illegitimate" government.

"I hereby now declare today in the name of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance Coalition that Monday the 20th of March will be a public holiday," Raila said.
