Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime on Wednesday was appointed as the Red Cross branch patron of Taveta county.
This follows a meeting with Red Cross governor Geoffrey Kipngetich and secretary general Asha Mohammed at Kenya Red Cross headquarters.
The trio discussed an ongoing collaboration with the Taita Taveta county in critical areas such as water, hygiene and sanitation.
They also discussed food security and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction and emergency response.
Mwadime emphasised the need for enhanced collaboration to tackle the many challenges faced by the people of Taita Taveta.
Mwadime called for more "collaboration in addressing the drought which has left over 150,000 families in the county in need of food aid. "
Other dignitaries in the meeting were MPs Peter Shake (Mwatate), Khamisi Chome (Voi) and Danson Mwashako (Wundanyi).
"Mwadime signed an MoU with us which will boost collaboration in water supply, disaster risk reduction, health/nutrition and climate change initiatives among others," Mohamed said.
Mohamed said the society is committed to work with the county in addressing drought emergency.
She added that they will also work to implement long-term development projects to enhance the resilience of the community.
