ICT CS Eliud Owalo on Thursday launched a National Tree Growing and Restoration Campaign in Siaya.
This is after President William Ruto started an initiative for planting and growing of more than 15 billion trees.
In a statement, Owalo said that the initiative will restore the degraded environment and ecosystems.
"We will work with all stakeholders to restore and sustain our environment for posterity and humankind in general. Our common future is pegged on the good health of our environment," he said.
Ruto's declaration is in accordance with the United Nations decade of Ecosystem Restoration.
Leaders present during the launch of the Siaya Chapter included DCC Richard Ngetich and Siaya county Forest Conservator, Evans Arori.
Others were CEC for Water, Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources, Caroline Onyango and Vicky Onderi, ICREST CEO.
