Female politicians made history at the August 9 general election by successfully vying for various elective seats and trouncing much experienced male counterparts.

They include Kawira Mwangaza who was elected Meru governor on an Independent ticket.
Others are Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay, ODM), Fatuma Achani (Kwale, UDA), Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos, Wiper), Susan Kihika (Nakuru, UDA) and Cecilly Mbarire (Embu, UDA).
Incumbent Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru also managed to retain her seat on the UDA ticket after wading off stiff competition from fellow female politician Purity Ngirici (Independent).
Some of the newly elected governors were accompanied by their spouses for their inauguration ceremony held on Thursday, August 25, 2022.
