President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday commissioned the Karimenu II Dam in Gatundu North, Kiambu County.
The dam cost Sh24 billion, a Vision 2030 flagship project started in 2019 with joint funding from the Governments of Kenya and China.
The 59-metre high dam occupying 600 acres of land will supply 70 million litres of water daily to close to 1 million residents of Gatundu, Juja, Ruiru and parts of Nairobi City.
The head of state also visited Kamangu Primary School grounds in Kikuyu, Kiambu County to preside over the issuance of 14,000 title deeds to area residents.
After launching, Uhuru urged Kenyans to be careful not to elect a leader who does not have the country's best interest at heart.
Uhuru said Kenyans should not bungle their future at the last minute by voting in a thug.
"Restrain yourselves from electing a thief, I don't want to hear you crying and regretting. There are people who have funny stories but they are as sweet as honey and so convincing, but they are poison," he said.
