President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned KenGen's Olkaria V and Olkaria I Additional Unit 6 (Olkaria I AU6) geothermal power stations in Naivasha, Nakuru County on Tuesday.
Olkaria V is a 158MW plant while Olkaria I AU6 is the largest single turbine unit ever installed in any of KenGen's 5 geothermal units.
The plant has an installed capacity of 83.3MW of electricity which will be injected into the national grid.
Construction of Olkaria 1 AU 6 geothermal power plant started in December 2018.
The power plant is aligned to the company’s long-term strategy and the Least Coast Power Development Plan (LCPDP) focused on sustainable supply of renewable energy in support of the Government Big Four Agenda.
