Some bodaboda riders on Tuesday engaged in running battles with Nairobi County officers along Kenyatta Avenue.
This is after today's planned protest failed to manifest.
The riders said they disagree with some of the demands by the Government such as KRA pins in the ongoing registration.
They also raised concerns about harassment by the county officers.
Last week, the Nairobi County Bodaboda Association chairperson Ken Onyango said, in line with the government’s directive aimed at streamlining the bodaboda sector, they have come up with new measures for the purposes of restoring sanity.
Among the new measures include; the formation of one Sacco within each of the seventeen Nairobi sub-counties where the riders will have a badge and a reflector jacket branded with a specific colour code for easier identification.
“Every single rider will have an identity card completely branded with a Sacco colour he or she is associated with, and it’s different from another Sacco in each of the sub-counties," said Onyango.
In addition to the colour codes, each motorcycle will be mounted with a QR code on its plate that will help people identify the full details of the riders just in case of emergencies or indiscipline cases.
The riders will however have to part with one thousand shillings to cater for the cost of the branded identity cards and reflector jackets.
