The Director of Public Prosecutions on Tuesday launched the excellence charter; and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on Investigation and Prosecution of Serious Human Rights Violations Committed by Police Officers.
The charter provides a road map aimed at transforming the office of the DPP into a 21st-century prosecution service that is more responsive to the needs of members of the public.
DPP Noordin Haji said on Tuesday during the launch that the charter will serve members of the public through six strategic commitments, including; Independence and integrity; Lifelong learning; Reshaping prosecutions; Leadership; Organisational effectiveness and Inter-Agency networks.
During the launch, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i said that the charter represents a greater commitment to reforms within the ecosystem of the criminal justice system.
He added that the journey requires collaboration with the public through crime reporting.
“From our end as security sector players, we are obliged to measure up to the expectations of fighting crime through prosecution-guided investigations and inter-agency collaboration, and this is what the ODPP Excellence Charter launched today brings on board,” Matiang’i said.
President of the Court of Appeal Justice Daniel Musinga, his LSK counterpart Nelson Havi, Police IG Hilray Mutyambai among other leaders were also present.
