Members of the National Assembly in Bungoma county on Wednesday led demonstrations against the Ministry of Roads.
Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga and his Webuye counterpart Dan Wanyama led the demos.
The MPs protested along the Chwele-Lakhakha highway over increased accidents causing the death of more than 30 boda boda riders in the area.
"The road from Kampala to Bikiri through Bakala should be closed from today,"Kalasinga said.
The legislators urged Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen to ban heavy transit trucks along the highway saying the road is too small to accommodate them.
"My friend (CS) Murkomen, people from Kabuchai are dying, people from Western, Sirisia and Kimilili are dying," Kalasinga said.
Wanyama called on the police to issue a letter barring truck drivers from using the road or they will mobilise the citizens to do it.
"We want to tell the traffic police in Bungoma county to write a letter at once that all the trucks should go back to Malaba. And if the police do not stop them we will," Wanyama said.
