Residents of Ngara Falls in Uasin Gishu on Monday blocked UDA governor candidate Jonathan Chelilim, alias Koti Moja, from addressing them as they protested against the high cost of living.

They said area leaders had neglected them in their hour of need.

Dan Kipyego said the high cost of living is a big challenge for them and voting in new leaders has not helped them in any way.

Currently, a bag of maize is selling at Sh6,500 and a 2kg packet of maize flour is retailing at an average Sh200, which residents say is beyond the reach of many Kenyans.

Resident Ann Chepkoech said most residents have been sleeping hungry as leaders concentrate on campaigns.

She said leaders should sit down and discuss how they will bring down the prices of essential commodities.

Chepkoech, a farmer, said the price of farm inputs has skyrocketed yet farmers sell their produce to the NCPB at a throwaway price.

Candidate Chelilim said the entire world is facing tough economic times and the high cost of living is not in Kenya alone.
