Five succumb to Covid as 494 new cases recorded

Kenya on Thursday recorded 494 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country's case load to 166,876, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.

The CS in a statement confirmed that this was from a sample size of 6,428 recording a positivity rate of 7.7 per cent.

The cumulative tests stand at 1.763,274.

The country's fatalities have risen to 3,040 after another five patients succumbed to the disease.

Kagwe said that there are 1,085 patients currently admitted in various hospitals across the country. Another, 4,624 patients are on the home-based care programme.

A total of 109 patients are in ICU, out of which 20 are on ventilatory support.

Also, 86 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen, out of which 81 are in general wards and five in the HDU.

Meanwhile, 50 patients have recovered from the disease out of which 27 were from the Homebased care program while 23 were discharged from various health facilities.

Kenya's recoveries now stand at 114,285.

The CS said 948,980 people have been vaccinated countrywide.
