UDA candidate for Malava by-election David Ndakwa has said he will complete all projects started by MP Malulu Injendi if elected.
Injendi died on February 17 while receiving treatment at Aga Khan Hospital. Speaking in Malava town, Ndakwa said he will carry on his initiatives.
“Malulu prioritised water projects, education and reviving the sugarcane sector. I will pick up this mantle from where he left and ensure his vision becomes a reality,” he said.
Malava and 23 other by-elections across the country are set for November 27.
Ndakwa is battling it out with eight others in the race to replace Malulu, who was serving his third term as Malava MP at the time of his death.
He championed for the new administrative units that his predecessor was advocating. He cited the creation of new administration units including Shivanga, Shirungu/Mugai and Chesero divisions, as well as additional subcounties.
Ndakwa said his leadership will focus on upgrading local health infrastructure, investing in health education and empowering frontline health workers to deliver better, accessible and people-centred healthcare for every resident of Malava.
He said he will prioritise the upgrade of Malava Subcounty Hospital to a Level 4 facility to move essential services closer to the people.
“This calls for improved health infrastructure, access to specialised services, modern equipment and better maternity care that guarantees undisputed and quality services, reducing the need for referrals outside the constituency,” Ndakwa said.
He will also seek to forge a strong partnership with the Kenya Kwanza government to deliver national support directly to Malava’s health sector to ensure enhanced funding, adequate medical staff and essential services reach the ground.
Ndakwa will also pursue full operationalisation and expansion of the newly established Kenya Medical Training College campus in Malava.
“This includes increasing capacity to admit more students and introducing more health-related programmes to train nurses and medics who will serve within the constituency,” he said.
Ndakwa said he will ensure that Community Health Promoters (CHPs) are well-equipped, trained and supported to serve households more effectively as the first-line care givers in the communities.
