Thousands of fans, local leaders, and residents gathered at Milo Primary Grounds in Sitikho Ward for the start of the second edition of the much-anticipated football tournament in Webuye West.
Organised by the Joseph Waswa Foundation, the tournament has drawn a record 72 teams from all four wards—Sitikho, Matulo, Bokoli, and Misikhu—making it the largest community football event ever held in the constituency.
The competition, which began this week, will run until
January 3, 2026.
In a powerful display of support, the foundation fully kitted each participating team with new uniforms and match balls, ensuring equal opportunity for all players.
“This tournament is not just about football, it’s about opportunity, unity, and giving our young people a platform to showcase their potential,” said Joseph Lendrix Waswa, the businessman and philanthropist behind the initiative.
Across the constituency, residents welcomed the tournament as a significant step toward youth empowerment and community development.
In Sitikho Ward, local resident Peter Wekesa praised Waswa’s efforts: “He’s done more than most leaders in this area.”
In Matulo Ward, women’s footballer Alice Nabwire applauded the inclusion of women’s teams and the sizable cash prize,” she said.
In Bokoli Ward, youth leader Brian Simiyu emphasized the tournament’s role in showcasing regional talent:
“For years, our talent has gone unnoticed. This tournament puts Bokoli and Webuye West on the map.”

Meanwhile, in Misikhu Ward, small-scale trader Sarah Naliaka highlighted the economic ripple effects of the event:
“The matches will bring customers and money into residents’ hands. Through sports, families will now be fed.”
Key local leaders, including Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang, attended the tournament’s grand opening.
Also in attendance were Matulo MCA Steve Kaiser, Misikhu MCA Milliah Masungo, and Sitikho MCA Grace Sundukwa, who all expressed their support for the grassroots sports initiative.
