There is need for a national dialogue between the government, opposition and the youths to steady the country’s economic growth, Kakamega deputy governor Ayub Savula has said.
Savula said the current situation where the opposition has put the country in a campaign mood continues to hurt the already battered economy.
“A national dialogue will end the current political anxiety and come up with a road map to address underlying issues,” he said.
He said the solution to young people’s unrest in the county was job creation so that they are not left idle.
There is need to encourage establishment of industries that will create jobs for the youth, he said.
This, the deputy governor said, will occupy the youths and avoid their being misused by some selfish individuals for personal gains.
“The opposition must stop public disruptions. The youths needs jobs but the current situation sends wrong image to the would be investors that Kenya is at war and they shy away,” he said.
Savula was speaking during a burial service for the Mama Esther Sungu at the Lurambi Jamia Mosque on Wednesday.
Sungu was a niece to Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli.
Savula asked those interested in unseating President William Ruto to wait until 2027, adding that burning the country will not hand power to anyone.
“What's the need for commemorating one year for the dead and again have more deaths? Kenyans voted in this government through the ballot, if it's not delivering as per your expectations wait for the right time and get rid of it instead of all these unnecessary chaos,” he said.
“You cannot sent our youths to death just to dance on their graves for selfish ends,” he said.
He said Kenya needs peace and stability to prosper. Savula said youths are a big resource that should be harnesses for positive contribution towards economic growth instead of being misused by politicians.
