

Over 2,900 households in Kwanza constituency are set to benefit from a KSh 214 million rural electrification project which will be implimented by the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).
Speaking while he flagged off electrification materials at Kobos village in Kwanza Constituency , Trans Nzoia county , Energy PS Alex Wachira said that the exercise will cost Sh214 million will mark a major milestone in efforts to eliminate energy poverty in rural Kenya.
He said that the villages of Kobos Kapchorwa , Kobos Sabwani and Muguiywet will be the first to benefit. Wachira said that the initiative aligns with the government's agenda to ensure universal access to electricity in rural areas.

He emphasized that this is the largest electrification project of its kind launched in the region.
Area Member of Parliament, Ferdinand Kevin Wanyonyi, welcomed the development, stating it would be of great benefit to residents who have lived for years without electricity.
He noted that access to electricity would significantly improve livelihoods, education, and economic opportunities in the region.
And in a bid to hasten the connection process, Wanyonyi promised to set aside Sh5 million from his NG-CDF which will be handed over to REREC and the organisation will match the funds with a similar amount and impliment electrification in the area.

The event was also attended by the Principal secretary in the ministry of foreign affairs Korir Sing’oei .
The rural electrification drive is part of the government’s broader goal to bridge the urban-rural development gap and promote inclusive growth across the country.
