Bright but needy students from Kimilili Constituency are set to benefit from a food initiative and a scholarship programme aimed at enhancing access to education in the area.

Philanthropist Joshua Makokha announced that the scholarship programme will benefit 40 students across the four wards in the constituency, 10 from each ward.

“This is just the beginning,” he remarked. “Education is the foundation of a prosperous society. By investing in our students, we are nurturing future leaders, innovators, and agents of change.”

Makokha made the announcement when he launched the food donation drive in the constituency at CBSM School in Kimilili town.

The donation and sponsorship initiative were met with enthusiastic praise from educators and parents alike.

“We have learners who often miss school due to hunger,” noted Carolyne Wafula, a teacher at CBSM School. “The donation and the scholarship programme are a true game changer for many deserving students.”

Parents also expressed heartfelt gratitude. “As a mother of three, I’ve struggled to keep my children in school,” said Mary Nekesa, a local resident. “Knowing my child might receive sponsorship gives me renewed hope.”

The food initiative and the scholarship programme will be run by Joshua Makokha Foundation.

Joined by close friends and well-wishers, Makokha, a Ford Kenya politician delivered sacks of maize and rice to the school, which will cater for a large number of underprivileged students.

Makokha highlighted the importance of ensuring that no child is forced to learn on an empty stomach. “Today’s gesture is about more than just food, it’s about restoring dignity and unlocking opportunity,” said Makokha.

“Leadership must be rooted in compassion. Together with like-minded friends, we are committed to lifting our people.”

Makokha emphasised that his mission goes beyond handouts, but about building sustainable systems of support.

“We must create a Kimilili where every child, regardless of background, has a fair shot at success,” he declared.
