Bumula Member of Parliament Jack Wamboka has launched a market at Mateka in his Constituency to allow traders to run businesses in a conducive environment.

Speaking after laying a stone at the construction site on Monday, Wamboka noted that the modern market is a key infrastructure to the economic well-being of the region and the constituency.

The MP was accompanied by Polycarp Onyango, senior director of the State Department of Housing and Urban Planning.

Onyango said that the modern Mateka market will be complete within six months.

He also revealed that there are other ongoing constructions of markets in Malakisi in Sirisia, Chebukube in Bungoma town, Chwele in Kabuchai, Kamukunywa in Kimilili and Naitiri in Tongaren.

“I have directed all contractors on the mentioned construction sites that they should utilise residents there unless the skills they are looking for are not available on the ground there which the leadership and the team will confirm before someone else is given sourced from outside,” he said.

Wamboka said that he will continue putting the government in check dismissing claims that he did not attend President Ruto’s Bungoma State Lodge meeting with the Western region leaders.

“Those fueling propaganda and allegations that I didn’t meet the President at Bungoma State Lodge are great liars, the truth is that I met him, we shared a lot concerning Bumula developments and soon he will be coming to launch rehabilitation of roads in my constituency,” he said.

“I did not ask the President to launch a market in Bumula because PS Housing and Urban Development Charles Hinga helped us secure Sh50 million funding, what I want is road rehabilitation."

On the proposed Finance Bill 2024, the DAP-K lawmaker affirmed that he will continue opposing it.

“The last time I did not give my own opinion of Ruto’s proposed taxes, I came here and requested your opinion and you directed me that I vote ‘NO” which I did and I will continue opposing heavy taxes,” he said.
