Tongaren MP John Chikati has come to the defence of Eliud Wekesa alias ‘Yesu wa Tongaren.’
Speaking at Wekesa’s home during the visit on Monday, the lawmaker said ‘Yesu wa Tongaren’ is the son of the soil and he is right to use the name.
“I don’t see any problem when someone uses the name ‘Jesus’, it is like me using the name John,” he said.
The Ford Kenya MP revealed that he has agreed on certain issues with Wekesa in relation to his controversial teachings.
Chikati affirmed that Wekesa is not linked to cultic behaviours as is witnessed in Shakahola, Kilifi county.
“I have come here with my team purposely to assess what goes on here but so far we haven't seen anything wrong,” Chikati said.
Chikati urged ‘Yesu wa Tongaren' to use his preachings to unite people and spread peace in the community.
‘Yesu wa Tongaren’, however, pleaded with police not to arrest him after Bungoma police commander, Francis Kooli, summoned him for questioning on Wednesday.
President William Ruto last week formed a task force to review regulations governing religious organisations to ensure transparency.
According to Kooli they summoned 'Yesu wa Tongaren' as a matter of public interest and to ensure the rule of law is upheld.
Yesu wa Tongaren' has, however, declared that he is innocent of any malicious acts and only preaches the true gospel.
Milima ward MCA Jerusa Aleu, also defended ‘Yesu wa Tongaren’ saying that he is a grown-up, has no bad intentions and he is not associated with cultic behaviours.
