Mukumu Girls High School has been shut down by public health officers, following the death of two students after diarrhoea outbreak.

The outbreak saw over 124 students hospitalised at the Kakamega County General Hospital last week in a suspected case of food and water poisoning.

The school has confirmed that two students, one from Bungoma and another from Navakholo in Kakamega county have died of bacterial infections.

It is reported that more than 500 students have been infected by the bacteria.

The Ministry of Education led by Western region Education director Jared Otieno has affirmed that the Ministry of Health is investigating the incident to unravel the cause of the disease outbreak.
