Outreach programmes dubbed Huduma Mashinani by Huduma centre in Kakamega have enabled residents to access services which would have otherwise forced them to travel far.

During the programmes, officials from government departments under the Huduma Centre go out into villages and other rural areas and offer services.

The services provided at the Huduma Centre are provided during this outreach programmes in a move that has worked to the advantage of the sick, elderly and other incapacitated members of the community.

Kakamega Huduma Centre deputy manager Victor Oloo said the programmes are part of the wider government initiative to ensure all citizens are able to access government services irrespective of the location, health, gender and age.

Oloo said the move has been largely welcomed by the local communities’ considering the large number of people who have been turning up each time.

He said even while in the field during the outreach programmes, the officials are guided by the Huduma core values which envision enhanced service delivery.

“That way, we have been reaching more and more people who for one reason or the other are unable to come to Huduma offices. They still get to access government services right in their villages and areas. The high number of people turning up means, they are reciprocative of the initiative and that’s a plus for the government,” Oloo said.

Among other services provided during the Huduma mashinani programmes include registration for National Social Security Fund, replacement of NSSF card, National Hospital Insurance Fund, Kenya Revenue Authority, National Construction Authority, Civil Registration Department, Business Name Search and Registration, National Registration Bureau, Identification Card and Birth certificate registration and replacement among others.

Oloo said during the outreach programmes, the officials are well trained on how to offer the best services to the people in shortest time so as to be able to cater to the high number of people who turn up.

“Our core values still stands to enable us maintain efficiency and innovativeness while at it. Time is a key value because we understand the number of people benefitting is high,” he said.

He reiterated that Huduma centres give citizens the advantage of accessing all of the government’s major services under a single roof and are a relief from past years when people had to run around different offices for the same.

“So far, the objective behind the formation of the Huduma centres is being achieved to a large scale and the fact that we have incorporated Huduma Mashinani makes it even better so that no one is left behind in as far as accessing government services goes," Oloo said.
