Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has shelved his 2027 political ambition and pledged allegiance to Governor Fernandez Barasa.
Savula has in a surprising turn of events changed his tune and is now dancing to that of Barasa.
He said there was only one centre of authority and that was Barasa.
Savula spoke on Wednesday during a consultative meeting on the county budget review and outlook paper at a hotel in Kakamega.
“Being the head of the executive we want a united county. We should not divide ourselves into camps,” the deputy governor said.
“We have one governor and for us to deliver, we must follow his direction.”
He said he was obliged to work under Barasa's directive and that he would not allow anyone to sow seeds of discord between them.
“Nobody should come in my office with unfounded rumours, I’m not ready to consume poison, don’t peddle such in my office,” he said.
In the recent past, Savula has been on record speaking tough and making hard stands that seemed to rock the Kakamega county leadership.
Savula had claimed that he was a co-governor.
He alleged that the county had been divided into a 50/50 between him and Barasa.
“Let nobody cheat you that Savula is a deputy, no. We have divided the county government into two, Barasa has a half and I have the other half,” he said then.
However, with the change of heart Savula has called for a united administration to serve the people of Kakamega appropriately, for them to get elected for another term in 2027.
“We need to start implementing the pledges we made to the people of Kakamega so that we can endear them to elect us again,” he said.
Savula shelved his 2027 political ambitions as he endeavoured to deputise Barasa in his second term.
“I promise that I am not in a hurry, I don’t have serious political ambitions. In 2027 I will still deputise Barasa. I am only 40-years-old,” he said.
