Gisambai ward MCA Eric Odei has been elected as the Vihiga deputy speaker after defeating Karega Mboku of ODM.

Odei garnered 20 votes against Mboku's 15 votes out of 36 votes cast.

Shamakhokho MCA Muhiga Richard got one vote, but he had withdrawn from the race before the voting process started.

Odei said he was ready to deliver on his duties.

The MCA who served in the speaker panel during his first term said he is ready for the task.

“I take this opportunity to thank my fellow MCAs for trusting me. I am ready to work to ensure Vihiga moves in terms of quality legislation,” Odei said.

Vihiga county assembly clerk Ambaka Kilinga congratulated Odei for being elected as deputy speaker.

“The election of Eric Odei of ANC as deputy speaker shows that our Vihiga county assembly is one team and not political camps of opposition,” Ambaka said.

In Vihiga county Assembly Azimio forms the majority while Kenya Kwanza forms the minority.

Former Luanda MP Chris Omulele who was fronted by the Azimio team was elected speaker after defeating Hillary Adolwa.

He garnered 22 votes against 14 votes.

Omulele contested for Luanda parliamentary seat but was defeated by Dickson Maungu of DAP-K.
