The Kenya School of Law has accredited Kakamega county as a pupillage trading centre.

Kakamega becomes the second county to be recognised for the role after Laikipia.

The county attorney’s office headed by Vivian Mmbaka had applied for the accreditation so they can partner in training upcoming lawyers in June this year.

KSL director Henry Mutai said in a letter dated August 31 that the county attorney’s office had met all the requirements for a pupillage training centre.

"We are pleased to advise that at its meeting held on August 5, 2022, the Kenya School of Law Board approved your institution as a pupillage training centre for a period of six months," the letter reads in part.

"We take this opportunity to congratulate you on successfully going through the accreditation process. We look forward to continue partnering with you to enhance legal training in Kenya."

Mmbaka welcomed the move saying it has been her dream.

"This is another milestone for the county and my office. It is a plus to us. I am happy that I will be part of the training programme for young lawyers in Kenya," she said.

KSL will be sending student lawyers to the county attorney’s office to undergo training for the next six months.

Mmbaka said the training programme will be part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by her office.

"I feel happy that through such training, I will be giving back my support to the community and contribute to the production of quality lawyers in Kenya," she said.

The move comes a few months after the Attorney's office agreed to offer free legal services to victims of Gender-Based Violence in the county.
