Young people in Nandi County seeking to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom could soon have greater access to internationally recognised scholarships.
This is through a new education partnership initiated by Governor Stephen Sang and the British High Commission.
The initiative aims to expand opportunities for students from the county to pursue quality higher education in Britain through globally recognised scholarship programmes.
Governor Sang held talks with a team from the British High Commission to explore the partnership, which is expected to be formalised once the ongoing discussions are concluded.
The discussions focused on enhancing access to quality higher education through the prestigious Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships.
"We met with a team from the British High Commission to discuss opportunities for our youth to access quality higher education through internationally recognised scholarship programmes," Sang said.
He said the talks also explored a strategic pilot programme under which the British High Commission will partner with local academic institutions, including Koitalel Samoei University and the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton.
"This collaboration is designed to create a streamlined pathway for students within the region to successfully apply for postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom," he said.
In addition to the academic partnerships, the county government and the British High Commission agreed on the need to increase public awareness of the scholarship opportunities.
Sang said the two parties plan to roll out community outreach and sensitisation programmes to ensure students, graduates and members of the public understand the application process and the opportunities available.
"These programmes provide deserving students with opportunities to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom," he said.
The governor said the awareness campaign would help ensure no eligible candidate misses out because of a lack of information.
He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to expanding access to education, describing it as a key pillar of the county's development agenda.
"As a county, we remain committed to working closely with our development partners to expand access to quality education and ensure more young people from Nandi benefit from these life-changing opportunities, ultimately contributing to the county's socio-economic transformation," Sang said.
He said the partnership comes at a time when many students from the county are seeking opportunities to further their studies at international colleges and universities, including those in the United Kingdom.
The governor said the county government is fully committed to ensuring the success of the initiative.
