Police in Eldoret have arrested two suspects and seized a lorry that was ferrying 12 bags of bhang valued at about Sh3 million.

County police commander Benjamin Mwanthi said one suspect escaped during an operation to arrest the suspects who were ferrying the drugs to Likoni in coast region.
The lorry was intercepted at Maili Nne area along the Eldoret-Webuye highway at about 4.30 am following a tip off from members of the public.
“We have two suspects in custody and they will be arraigned tommorrow. We also have seized the lorry which may be forefeited to the state because of the crime,” said Mwanthi.
Mwanthi who was with County DCI boss Daniel Muleli said they had put measures in place to ensure the area is not a transit point for drugs.
“We have put in place security measures including road blocks to ensure that such drugs are not transported through Eldoret,” said Mwanthi.
He said they were also working with truck owners association to ensure that their lorries are not used for such criminal activities.
Mwanthi said such drugs were being used to ruin the lives of many people especially the youth in all parts of the country.
The police boss said they had also acquired sniffer dogs that will be used to detect such drugs.
He said the dogs will be used in all areas including in educaton institutions.
Muleli asked parents and all residents to work with the police in dealing with the drugs menace in the region.
“We are also urging traders to stop engaging in such bussiness that ruins the lives of our children,” said Muleli.
Muleli said they would intensify security operatioms along all major roads in the region to ensure illegal bussiness does not thrive and warned those involved to stop.
