Turkana South MP John Namoti Ariko and seven others are facing assault charges in an Eldoret court following accusations that they attacked Nimrod Ekamais Lomorukai, the son of Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai.

Testifying before Eldoret Principal Magistrate Kesses Cherono, Nimrod claimed that supporters of his father’s political rivals orchestrated the assault against him on April 29, 2024, near Lodwar town.

The MP is charged alongside Peter Lokutuni, David Nangiro, Jemostar Akooyen, Bornfestus Nabuin, Joseph Ekitela, Sammy Ekitele, and James Abel.

Nimrod, a footballer by profession, told the court that his father had once warned him about rising political tensions in the region and the hostility of certain rivals.

On the day of the alleged assault, Nimrod said he had been at Cherina’s Hotel playing pool with friends—identified as Lokatur, Forstin, and Desmond—when he sensed tension from individuals known to him.

He told the court that he called his elder brother Lavish to pick him up from the hotel.

While waiting at the parking yard, Nimrod said he was slapped by someone he later identified as Peter Etung. Moments later, several others allegedly joined in beating him.

“On that day, I was at Cherina’s Hotel in the company of my friends. I called my elder brother Lavish to come and pick me up. While waiting, I was suddenly slapped by someone I recognized as Peter Etung. He was soon joined by others who started beating me,” Nimrod said.

He recalled falling to the ground on his stomach as the assault continued. A friend intervened and helped him up. When his brother arrived at the scene, the attackers allegedly fled back into the hotel.

The pair then drove to Lodwar to report the incident. Nimrod was issued with a P3 form and taken to Lodwar County Referral Hospital, where he was treated and discharged. He later informed his parents about the incident.

Nimrod, represented in court by lawyer Richard Warigi, presented a medical report as evidence. However, the report indicated no bloodstains on his clothes or body—contradicting earlier claims that he had suffered severe injuries.

In addition to assault charges, the accused are also facing a second count of conspiracy to defeat justice, contrary to Section 117(a) of the Penal Code.

The case has been adjourned to October 24, 2025, for further hearing.
