More residents should sign up for the Social Health Authority, a
game changer in the health sector, Governor Stephen Sang has said.
He has issued a renewed passionate appeal, saying widespread registration with SHA remains an absolute priority for the county’s healthcare future.
Nandi county’s SHA registration rate is 47 per cent, ranking it at position 11 nationally. The country is trying to significantly increase enrolment.
Sang spoke at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital where he visited the ongoing
measles-rubella and typhoid conjugate vaccination drive.
Governor Sang said SHA enrolment is far from sufficient and urged every eligible resident to register without delay.
“SHA is not just another programme, it is a groundbreaking and revolutionary initiative,” Sang said.
He said through SHA all Kenyans would enjoy better healthcare.
“SHA represents a fundamental shift in how healthcare is financed and delivered in Kenya,” Sang said.
“I am confident SHA is the key that will ultimately turn around services in the health sector, making quality healthcare accessible and affordable for all Kenyans.”
The county chief highlighted the tangible benefits already realised through the improved health system.
He cited the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital as a success story.
“The hospital’s services now operate 100 per cent on the SHA framework,” he said.
“This demonstrates the system’s viability and its direct impact on enhancing healthcare delivery at our most critical institution.”
He praised the national government for driving the transformative agenda.
Sang urged community leaders, administrators, and every household to actively mobilise residents to register.
Increased enrolment, the governor said, is essential to unlock greater resources, improve healthcare infrastructure, expand services, and ensure financial protection for families facing health challenges.
