Kajiado County Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has issued bursaries and scholarships worth Sh80 million to beneficiaries as schools open for the first term of 2025.
Out of the Sh80m, Sh20 million has been earmarked as scholarships for needy and orphaned learners in secondary, university, and technical institutions.
Speaking during the release, the governor said his administration will continue increasing the amount allocated to bursaries and scholarships as the revenue collected by the county increases.
He said they are aware many parents are unable to pay the school fees for their children as climate change has greatly affected the livestock sector, which is the main source of livelihood for many parents in the county; thus they need the support of their county government.
“Let us all focus on education, as it will help alleviate poverty in our communities. Ensure your children go to school. Always keep track of their performance, as good performance of the students requires the efforts of the teachers, parents, and the students combined,” Governor Ole Lenku said.
He directed the department of education to ensure the disbursement process is completed latest Tuesday next week so the beneficiaries can access the assistance and study without difficulties.
The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Vocational Training, Youth and Sports Janet Sereu, said her department targets raising the level of education in the county to guarantee the future of all learners.
She said the Sh20 million for scholarships has already been released to the beneficiaries, while the bursaries will be disbursed next week.
