The First Lady Rachel Ruto, celebrated World Water Day 2024 at the Kisaju Primary School in Kajiado County and donated water tanks to 26 primary and secondary schools.
Rachel said during the celebration on Friday, that the water tanks will enable the institutions to increase their water storage capacity.
All the schools that received the water tanks are in the Kajiado West Constituency.
The First Lady further committed to improving the welfare of learners by working with leaders and partners to ensure all public primary and secondary schools have sufficient clean drinking water.
This, she said, will involve, among others, the provision of water tanks, boreholes, wells, and water pans.
The First Lady underscored the importance of access to clean water in educational settings, as it directly impacted students' health, hygiene, and academic performance.
“By providing water tanks to schools, learners are relieved of the burden of water scarcity and contribute to school enrollment retention and transition, in line with the 100 per cent transition policy of the government,” she said.
The Celebrations event at Kisaju Primary School represented a collaborative effort by stakeholders to address water-related challenges and promote sustainable development in Kajiado County.
Other leaders present included MPs George Risa Sunkuyia, Leah Sankaire, Kajiado county assembly speaker, Justus Ngossor and several MCAs.
