Sports, Culture and Arts Committee chairperson Dan Wanyama wants the government to adequately fund preparations of national teams representing the country in international championships.
Wanyama noted that the Sports Ministry should direct resources towards funding preparations of various national teams to ensure they win titles for the country.
"National teams have failed the country in international championships due to poor preparations,” said the Webuye West MP.
He added: "Funding of national teams through the Sports Fund is not enough. The ministry needs to also invest in their preparations if they want to win international titles.”
He further pointed out that Kenya was a reservoir of talent but lack of structures, adequate funding and proper preparations of the national teams was the reason we are not winning more titles as we should.
Wanyama reiterated the committee's commitment to support the ministry to revive sports in the country.
"As a committee, we are committed to supporting the ambitious plans by Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwanba to breathe a new life into the sports industry in the country," he added.
He pointed out that the committee will ensure resources apportioned to the ministry to fund sporting activities are well utilised.
