A fire that broke out in Kitengela’s CBD on Tuesday night consumed Sh20 million worth of property, businessman Antony Wangui said on Wednesday morning.

The temporary two-storey building caught fire after an electric fault, Kitengela OCS David Shani said.

Wangui said the temporary building housed his furniture shop, two containers for fresh fish, a Mpesa outlet and a boutique shop.

“The county’s fire brigade tried their best but by the time we were done with the fire at 1 am on Wednesday, a lot of stuff had been consumed by fire,” Wangui said.

Agatha Tajeu, who owns the adjacent Esidai Hotel and Restaurant said the fire burnt the northern side of her building.

“The fire was too much, we will be forced to bring down one side of my building because its strength has been compromised by the fire,” Tajeu said.

Shani said the fire took them many hours to bring it under control but the National Bank building side was not affected.

The police said no injures were reported during the inferno.
