Police in Naivasha are investigating an incident where two suspects shot and seriously injured a caretaker in the mouth.
The two suspects then fled without stealing anything.
Police said they had gone to rent a house in Hopewell estate, when they turned against the victim and shot him at around midday.
A group of motorcycle operators, who tried to stop the suspects were forced to scamper for safety after they shot in the air.
Naivasha OCPD Benjamin Boen said the suspects were in a personal vehicle.
“They entered one of the houses and a commotion ensued. They shot him in the mouth and fled using their car,” he said.
Boen said that they are investigating the motive behind the incident.
He said the victim had been transferred to the Nakuru Level 6 hospital for specialised treatment.
Meanwhile, there was drama at Naivasha Sub-county hospital after an inmate from Naivasha medium prison, brought in for treatment escaped under unclear circumstances.
Prison wardens swarmed the hospital, searched wards and structures in the busy facility without any success.
The inmate who has been remanded in prison for the past one year for defilement escaped from one of the toilets.
Sam Kamano, a witness, said more than ten inmates escorted by armed warders from the prison had arrived at the hospital for treatment.
“He escaped through a window in the toilet and by the time the warders realised, he was nowhere to be seen,” Kamano said.
Superintendent in charge of the hospital Dr Bernard Warui said police and prison warders had taken over the matter.
“The suspect had just been brought to the hospital for treatment but escaped under unclear circumstances,” he said.
