Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok answers audit questions when he appeared before County Public Investment and special funds committee in parliament on April 12, 2023.

Bomet County has initiated plans of putting up an ICT hub and the County Aggregation Industrial Park (CAIP).

The two key projects are in line with President William Ruto's bottom-up economic transformational agenda.

While announcing plans of setting up the ICTs hubs across the 1, 450 wards, Ruto said this will create employment for millions of jobless youth.

The industrial parks to be set up in each of the 47 counties, he noted, will enhance the country's productivity adding that his administration is prioritizing the consolidation, processing, and value addition of agricultural products.

Each of the parks is to be constructed for Sh500 million.

Governor Hillary Barchok has told the MCAs that the county intends to acquire Sh125 million for the developments.

In his proposal to the County Assembly, Barchok wants the members to amend the Appropriation Bill, 2023 to factor in the amount.

"In view of the prevailing circumstances and significant emerging issues, I hereby request for an amendment to the Bill to address among others the key policy interventions," a letter through the Finance CEC Andrew Sigei to the clerk reads.

Also for consideration in the Bill is Sh50 million being the county contribution to the national government for the construction of the park.

The Bill is set for tabling on July 20.

The national government through the Ministry of Trade in partnership with the Council of Governors has called on interested contractors to submit their bids for the construction of the parks in 25 counties.

The bids to be submitted by July 21 are to be accompanied by a Sh9 million guarantee in the form of a bid bond, the notice reads.

Each CAIP will have a minimum of four manufacturing sheds of 4,000 square metres, thus devolving manufacturing capacity to each of the 47 counties.

They are to be located within the proximity to production areas to serve farmers and primary producers through collection, storage and sorting and even primary processing and value addition.

Additionally, Barchok has requested the House to budget Sh123 million as unpaid balances for the newly acquired road construction equipment.
