Suspected bandits kill one in Baringo sparking tension amid operation

Chief says unestablished number of livestock was also stolen from two homes

Tension is high within Kagir village in Saimo Soi ward,  Baringo North, after suspected bandits killed a man Tuesday night and reportedly made away with over 200 goats belonging to two families.

Barketiew chief Wilson Chelagat said on Wednesday that the deceased, Kakuko Chebor, was sprayed with bullets by the bandits who also stole unestablished number of livestock.

"The attack took place near Kagir Primary School which is along the borderline,” he said adding that two residents, Margaret Kebut and Joseph Chesundu, were left counting losses after their livestock were stolen during the attack.

Chelagat claimed the bandits drove the stolen livestock towards Kositei and Seretion village in Tiaty subcounty.

By the time of going to press police were yet to arrive at the scene and the body was not collected.

"We need heavy security to reach the area to pick the body and we don't know if the bandits have laid ambush, but police are working on the logistics," Chelagat said.

He urged the government to disarm the bandits to restore security in the region.
