Don't mess with skills fund, politicians warned

Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has warned politicians not to interfere with fair distribution of the County Skills Development Fund.

The county has allocated Sh372.7 million to the fund targeting more 20,000 needy students as beneficiaries.

“The county bursary funds has an act that guides its distribution. The Skills Development Fund Act will be followed as the leadership of the County Assembly, including the minority and majority leaders are aware."

Lomorukai spoke at the PAG Church Kalemnyang, in Turkwel Loima subcounty after Sunday service.

Lomorukai promised to repay residents for their overwhelming election and trust placed in him by maintaining transparency and better accountability in governance.

He praised MCAs who have agreed to work with him on a bipartisan basis.

He informed residents of talks with MCAs to amend the Skills Development Fund and increase allocation to accommodate the huge demand for school  from needy students.

The county boss later addressed a public baraza where he stated his leadership will not be an exercise of empty power. It will focus on development with equal representation of every corner of Turkana.

He said he will address water challenges in most of the county, starting with Lodwar municipality and environs, and then move to other regions.

Lomorukai said drought hard-hit areas like Turkana East had been prioritised in the current relief cycle. He assured residents the county had procured additional relief food for other regions.

The Turkana administration says more than 640,000 people are in dire need of relief food.

Lomorukai of ODM has pledged to work with President William Ruto of UDM as the elected head of state despite their different parties.

He cautioned residents against associating with politicians who were against unity of leaders and tried to fuel division.

Minority land Lokichar MCA Samwel Lomodo assured residents that the minority side will champion the government development and political interests in the county Assembly.
