ODM leader Raila Odinga has said that the ODM party will pick its flagbearer for Narok governor by consensus.
Raila said all the contestants are qualified for the job but they only need one of them.
He was speaking duringAzimio a Umoja campaigns in Ololulunga trading centre in Narok South subcounty on Saturday,
“Even after agreeing on one contender, those others are our people and we will continue to work together in this journey to change this country,” Raila said.
The ODM leader added that these four leaders are among the best brains in the country. He said they have a wealth of experience in managing public institutions and their input is key in the developing the nation.
“I will work with them in the next government if I am elected to be the next president, so they should stay put and support the candidate picked to carry our flag in the elections,” he said.
Those eying the party ticket are Youth Affairs PS Charles Sunkuli, Narok North MP Moitalel ole Kenta, Commission on Revenue Allocation Commissioner Kishanto Suuji and former ICT PS Joseph ole Musuni.
The four will have to agree on who among them can best take on UDA candidates, including Labour CAS Patrick Ntutu, Narok West MP Gabriel Tongoyo and Narok Woman Representative Soipan Tuya.
The three leaders are waiting for UDA primaries in April.
The event was attended Governors Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia), Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko, Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.
Sunkuli said for the sake of unity of all the contestants and their people, he will back the procedure being fronted by the former prime minister.
“I, Charles Sunkuli. will support the process initiated to ensure one candidate from Azimio La Umoja is picked and that one will be next governor of Narok county,” he said. He has been In public service for more than 18 years.
Sunkuli is a management strategist with a solid background in administration, planning, management and leadership.
Suuji said that after touring the county and meeting people for three years, he decided to throw his hat into the ring.
“Raila, you are a true democratic and bring changes to this country and I believe that in the process of picking one candidate,” Sunkuli said.
Musuni, who was the ODM flagbearer in the last polls, said he is ready for talks with the leaders on who is best suited to fly the Azimio La Umoja banner.
“We need to respect each other as we seek to settle on the preferred candidate. We need to look for a mechanism on how we can reach consensus,”Musuni said.
During a meeting called the 'Maa Declaration' in Parburush in Narok Southon December 29, 2021, Maasai elders endorsed Kenta for the seat.
