Democratic Party (DP) South Rift branch officials have dismissed a clique of politicians who have been claiming to have locked the vast Rift Valley Region ahead of the 2022 General elections.

In an apparent attack to the Deputy President William Ruto and his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) outfit, the officials said those claiming that Rift Valley would vote for them as a block would be shocked once other Presidential candidates start campaigning in the region.

The officials drawn from Nakuru, Baringo, Kericho, Bomet and Narok counties told people in the region not to be intimidated into voting for a particular candidate.

Nakuru County DP branch chairperson, Njoroge Waititu asked residents of the region to maintain peace and allow each candidate to campaign peacefully.

"Kenya is open for all candidates to freely campaign anywhere," he said.

He warned candidates who were claiming regions saying that demarcations amounted to fear-mongering and intimidations of the electorate.

"The region is diverse, cosmopolitan and wide for competition by multiple presidential candidates," he added.

Njoroge said the party's presidential flag-bearer, who is the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi would officially launch his campaigns in the region later this month.

"Muturi has been crowned by elders in Mt Kenya as the region's spokesperson and he has the leadership credentials that qualify him for the top-most seat in the country," he said.

The party officials said they were confident that Muturi would return the Nation to the economic development levels that were set by DP founder, former President Mwai Kibaki.

Njoroge asked all the party branches countrywide to declare their equivocal support for Muturi as the party's flagbearer and introduce him to their regions as the most suitable candidate.

Asked if there were plans to form a coalition with other parties, Njoroge said the party would on think of such an idea after the general elections.
