Five Kalenjin MPs have asked President Uhuru Kenyatta not to sack Finance Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich over the multi-billion dams scandals.

They accused President Kenyatta of sacrificing the Kalenjin tribe in a bid to stop Deputy President William Ruto from succeeding him in 2022.

The embattled CS might face charges over Sh21 billion that the Treasury released for the Arror and Kimwarer dams, whose construction has never started.

Rotich reportedly went against the advice of the Attorney General and signed off the deal with an Italian company that is now facing collapse.

The from Elgeyo Marakwet MPs, along with more than 30 MCAs, accused Uhuru of targeting the Kalenjin tribe in the ongoing war on graft.

"This is politics and we won't entertain tricks. If Uhuru does not want Ruto let him not sacrifice Kalenjins. Let him engage Ruto on their own," said Marakwet East MP Kangogo Bowen.

Other MPs present included Daniel Tomorrow of Keiyo South, Marakwet East MP William Kisang, Woman Rep Jane Chebaibai and Speaker of the county assembly Phillemon Sabulei.

Bowen claimed the ongoing investigations into the Arror and Kimwarer dam scandals was purely political and aimed at 2022 politics.

He alleged Rotich was being targeted for sacking because of the dams saga just because he was a Kalenjin from Ruto"s community.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations says their probe shows Kenyans could lose up to Sh20.5 billion that Treasury released for the dam projects that are yet to commence since 2017.

The MPs questioned why Rotich was grilled by the DCI for four days about the Arror and Kimwarer projects yet he had signed more than 22 dams in the country on behalf of the government.

Kisang claimed Uhuru was sacrificing the Kalenjin tribe and projects in the region just because he had changed his mind on Ruto.

"Let him back Raila in 2022 or anyone else but he should know that the people of Kenya will decide and him," said Kisang.

He said former President Moi had endorsed Uhuru in 2002 but he did not make it and that it won't be automatic for the President's choice to win in 2022.

The MPs said they are not opposed to investigations into graft cases but the same should not be driven by interests in 2022 politics.

Kisang said the handshake between President Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga was being used to marginalise Kalenjins.

"They are talking of building bridges for peace and unity while at the same time demolishing bridges to stop some people in 2022," said Kisang.

He accused Odinga of crossing the bridge into Jubilee and then turning back to brand other leaders as corrupt.

He said they will not allow the president to sacrifice Kalenjins in government by sacking them in the name of corruption.

Bowen said the two dams must be completed despite the ongoing investigations.

Chebaibai said the dams were to be used to help end the problem insecurity in Kerio Valley.

Sabulei said the same Investigations should be extended to other projects including dams in the President backyard of central region bacause the same were approved and funded in the same way.
