Governors-elect get state security detail

The government is putting in place measures to get adequate security and transport plans for the governors elected in all counties. Most of the governors have already been placed under temporary security plans which will be stepped up once they are sworn in.

The Transition Authority is already working with county secretaries and commissioners to ensure a smooth take over by the governors in all counties.

In Eldoret, the governor elect Jackson Mandago was immediately provided with police escort same as those in Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi and Baringo.

"All the elected leaders will be given adequate security as directed by the government," said Eldoret West police boss Erastus Muthamia.

Committees in various counties have also been tasked to work on the new offices to be occupied by the governors among other logistical plans for the new offices. TA Chairman Kinuthia wa Mwangi is co-ordinating the take over plans in all the counties.

In Eldoret the governor's office will be located at the Eldoret Municipal Council while the former office of the Wareng County Council will serve as the County Assembly.

Dates for the swearing of the governors and county representatives will be announced by the TA in the next few days. They will be sworn in by Judges and teams from the judiciary which have already been appointed.

32-year-old Alex Tolgos, who won on a URP ticket in Elgeyo Marakwet County said he found the polls quite competitive and the campaigns were so vigorous because of strong opponents.

"My priorities once I move into office will be to first come up with a clear plan and strategy to deal with poverty eradication, improvement of the infrastructure and the education sector as a base to spur general development in the county," said Tolgos.

Cleophas Lagat of URP, who will be the governor in Nandi county said he was satisfied with the election process including the high turn out of voters and the peaceful environment which prevailed.

"My priority will be to bring together all players to address main issues starting with development of education, infrastructure and agriculture,"said Lagat who is 50 years of age.
