Kisumu senatorial aspirant and lawyer Fred Odumo Nying'uro has stepped up his campaign for the 2027 General Election, calling on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) delegates to safeguard the party's unity and reject clan-based politics, which he said could weaken the county's political influence.

Odumo made the remarks during a meeting with ODM delegates from Kisumu West Constituency led by constituency chairman Charles Aduogo, where he sought support for his bid to become the county's next senator.

Addressing the delegates, the lawyer said the Luo community has remained politically influential because of its unity under ODM, urging party members to remain steadfast as political campaigns gradually gather momentum ahead of the next General Election.

He said the community's collective support for the party has enabled it to command respect in national politics and strengthen its bargaining power whenever leadership positions and political alliances are negotiated.

Drawing lessons from the political career of the late Raila Odinga, Odumo said his ability to attract support from across the country was largely driven by the unity demonstrated by his political base.

"The Luo community must remain united under ODM because our unity is our greatest strength. It is what makes other communities and political parties recognize our value whenever national leadership and political arrangements are being discussed," he said.

Odumo also cautioned residents against what he termed a growing trend of clan-based politics, saying leadership should be based on competence, integrity, experience and a proven record of service rather than clan affiliations.

He urged ODM delegates to champion issue-based politics and support leaders capable of delivering development for all residents regardless of their background.

"Leadership is not for a clan or a tribe. It is about serving all the people of Kisumu County. The people should reject leaders who seek to divide communities and instead elect those with the qualifications, ability, experience and demonstrated leadership to move the county forward," he said.

The meeting forms part of Odumo's ongoing grassroots engagements across Kisumu County as he seeks to strengthen support within ODM ahead of the 2027 General Election.
