A total of 280 wheelchairs were distributed in Kisumu on Tuesday, transforming the lives of many people with disabilities.
The distribution was part of a partnership between Chair The Love, a U.S.-based nonprofit, and JOOUST Online, with the aim of improving mobility and independence for recipients.
The event, held at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), was graced by Kisumu First Lady Dorothy Nyong’o and the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Emily Achieng’.
The wheelchair donations marked the culmination of a three-day outreach programme that spanned Baraton, Bondo, and Kisumu, led by the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton (UEAB) alongside Chair The Love.
“This initiative is about more than just mobility—it’s about restoring freedom, dignity, and the power of human connection,” said Augie Byllott, who heads Chair The Love.
UEAB Vice Chancellor Msafiri Jackson echoed this sentiment, highlighting the university’s broader commitment to making a positive difference. “We are proud to be a university that not only educates but uplifts,” he said.
The event brought smiles and tears of joy to many families, signaling a powerful step forward in inclusivity and support for people with disabilities in the region
