Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi has criticised Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga terming his recent remarks as reckless and aimed at creating animosity in the country.

Wandayi said Kahiga should not use the internal warangles within UDA to create animosity in the country adding that many Kenyans are not concerned with what is happening in the ruling party because they are not members and don't understand the cause of their current conflict.

Kahiga recently while speaking on the alleged mistreatment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in a Nyeri Church also complained about the allocation of funds saying some regions were given more compared to Mt Kenya yet they did not contribute enough votes in President William Ruto's 2022 vote basket.

Kahiga questioned why the government was investing in stadiums in Bungoma and addressing debts in the sugarcane sector instead of focusing on coffee saying they want equal treatment.

Wandayi emphasised that the Luo community has continued to thrive despite being out of government for extended periods.

"This must stop. The sense of entitlement exhibited through Governor Kahiga's remarks must end," he said.

He noted that the government of Kenya cannot be the property of only those who voted for it adding that every Kenyan, regardless of where they voted, pays taxes.

"The people of Kakamega, Bungoma, just like the people of Migori, Siaya, and Nyeri, are taxpayers and therefore are entitled to development like anybody else in this country," the MP said.

He further condemned the governor's public statements saying he cannot come out in public as an elected leader and start preaching what he termed as "politics of primitivity and backwardness".

"We don't care about the internal conflicts within your UDA party, but don't use that fight to insult other Kenyans. If we start saying that those who voted for the current government should pay taxes alone while those who didn't vote should not pay, where will that lead us?" Wandayi posed.

He said leaders must be responsible and cautious of the statements they make in public.

"Somebody occupying such a high position must be responsible and careful about what they say to the public. Don't use the internal battles within UDA to create animosity in the country."

Wandayi further stressed that no Kenyan community should be ridiculed based on their voting patterns in the last election and governor Kahiga must be called to order.
