Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of their employer at Kanyanjwa village in Gem West Location in Rangwe constituency.

They are linked to the murder of a 45-year-old widow identified as Sarah Achieng who hired them as shopkeepers of household items and posho mill operators.

The woman was found dead in her house on Thursday morning.

Achieng had injuries on her head.

Kanyanjwa Sub Location Assistant Chief Kennedy Onyango said the Achieng appeared to have been hit with blunt objects before she died.

Her head had deep cuts indicating that she was hit with some objects.

“There were blood stains on different surfaces of her house. The woman was attacked before being killed,” Onyango said.

Police arrested the suspects on Sunday evening.

Speaking after the arrest of the suspect, the administrator said the suspects went missing after the incident.

The matter was realized on Friday after some residents went to the deceased house to buy some household items. The residents did not find anyone to serve them.

They became suspicious after seeing some blood stains near the door.

Onyango said some neighbours reported they heard a commotion from the house of the woman before the woman’s death was known.

“The people who went to the house to buy items came and alerted others over the death. More residents went to the house and found the body lying in a pool of blood,” he said.

Achieng’s door was locked before the neighbours arrived and opened it.

Rangwe Police Commander Magdalene Chebet said the woman died as a result of strangulation and assault.

“There are signs that the woman strangulated. Her head also had some cuts to show that she was slashed,” Chebet said.

The police boss confirmed the arrest of the two suspects, saying they are under interrogation at Rangwe station.

Interrogation of the suspects will enable them to shed light on what could have led to the death of the woman.

“We want to know where the two men were when their employer was being killed. The suspects will as well tell us why they ran away after the incident yet they were supposed to report to their work,” Chebet said.

The body of the deceased was taken to Homa Bay County Teaching & Referral Hospital Mortuary.
