Police in Migori on Tuesday arrested three suspects and impounded bhang worth Sh5.2 million.

Police acting on intelligence from members of the public waylaid two suspected smugglers who had two Kenyan motorbikes as they brought the drugs from neighbouring Tanzania through Kuria area.

County police commander Francis Nguli told the press in Migori town that the suspects had the drugs in five sacks weighing 172 kilograms with a street value of Sh5.2 million.

“Police officers accosted the two suspects who decided to ride away and the police gave chase,” Nguuli said.

He said police lost track of the two before trailing motorbike tracks which led them to a homestead where two women had hidden and concealed the drugs.

The two riders on noticing police on their trail started to run but police managed to arrest one and impounded the drugs and motorbikes.

“We arrested the smuggler and the two women who hosted them with police launching investigations and a manhunt for the other suspect,” Nguuli said.

The three suspects are expected to be arraigned in court on Wednesday.

Nguuli said police are on high alert to control and arrest suspects smuggling bhang from Tanzania where the drug is grown in large scale.
