A section of United Democratic Alliance party youth within Kisumu have thrown their weight behind Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi over a spat with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Led by the interim national chairman, Cedric Otieno, the group rallied behind Sudi saying they will not sit back and see one of their own being vilified.

Otieno said the current government was formed by young people, adding that they will continue to defend the MP from "attacks by the old guards".

He said the DP should remember it was young people who traversed the country looking for votes for this government.

"It was Sudi who braved a hail of stones in the run up to elections in 2022, when the motorcade of President William Ruto, then Deputy President, came under stones in Kondele," Otieno said.

Speaking to the media in Kisumu, he noted that the Kapseret MP represents young people in the country and his contribution has been immense towards uplifting the lives of youth.

Sudi sacrificed for the formation of this government and it was sad that he is now being criticised for his political moves, Otieno added.

He urged Sudi to continue his engagement and keep holding harambees to fundraise for churches across the country. He also invited the MP to visit Nyanza region "any day, to propel the development agenda of President William Ruto".

Otieno, who is vying for Kisumu youth chairman in the party's upcoming polls, said young people should not be fought but instead be nurtured by the older ones.

His comments come in the face of Gachagua's tiff with Sudi, which has seen the two trading political barbs.

Their latest exchange comes amidst claims of a fall out between Ruto and his deputy. Gachagua was notably missing from key state functions for a week, fuelling speculation on the rift.

When the DP resurfaced in Nyeri, he insinuated that there were certain 'Rift Valley leaders' who wanted to cause strife between him and the President.

He then told off the unnamed leaders, saying each should stick to the politics and matters of their region.
