ODM party legislators in Kisii say overtaxing Kenyans signals a turn in the wrong direction for the Kenya Kwanza administration.

They consequently vowed to oppose the proposed Finance Bill 24 when it shall be brought before Parliament for approval.

"I did not go to Parliament to betray the poor. I am going to fight until all forms punitive taxation embedded in the bill are removed," Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi said.

The government, he said was in the business of rail-loading harsh taxes on voters.

"It did the same last year and it wants to do so this year. I will say nay again to protect my people," Kibagendi said.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Bomachoge Borabu MP Nolfason Barongo who was present at a fundraiser at Nyabururu Catholic Church on Sunday.

Barongo said the proposal to tax bread for instance marks a low for the Kenya Kwanza administration.

"By doing so he wants to make bread return to the table of the rich. Already Kenyans are becoming poorer... Let's not forget again and vote for regimes that are aloof to the plights of their people," said Barongo.

The two ODM MP spoke as Education CS Ezekiel Machogu separately defended the Kenya Kwanza government over its 'remarkable progress in addressing economic woes that had bedevilled the country' since Ruto assumed helms of power

"Judging by the phenomenal results the government has registered so far, we are definitely on the right trajectory. Let nobody cheat you," the CS said on Friday.

He was speaking at Mokoroinwa in Masaba South in Kisii during the burial of a kin.

He implored Kenyans to incessantly pray for their leaders so that they could make right decisions on governance.

" Up to where we are it is God, let's petition him always to grant us wisdom," he said.
