Two people died in a grisly road accident along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway in Athi River, Machakos county.
Police said the duo included a motorcyclist and his pillion passenger.
Two other pillion passengers sustained injuries and were admitted at Shalom Community hospital in Athi River.
The incident occurred near Green Park Gardens in Athi River subcounty on Sunday.
The accident happened at about 6.30pm and was reported to Athi River police station as a fatal traffic accident incident report.
Police said Caleb Kobo, 21, the motorbike's cyclist died on the spot while Churchill Chaka succumbed while he was being rushed to hospital.
"A driver Joshua Mutinda Mutua was driving a bus of Mitsubishi make from Mombasa to Nairobi, on reaching at the location of accident, a motor cycle of TVS make that was being riden by one Caleb Kobo, 21, with three pillion passengers while riding on the left lane heading to the same direction hit a pot hole and lost control of the said motorcycle. As a result, the said motorcycle landed on the road," the police report seen by the Star read in part.
Police said due to the impact, the rider succumbed to the injuries on the spot while Chaka, one of the pillion passengers, died while being rushed to hospital.
The other two pillion passengers, Moses Stephen and Said Issac, sustained slight injuries and were admitted at Shalom Community Hospital, Athi River branch.
"The said motorcycle slid and hit the said motor vehicle on the front bumper," the police report read in part.
Police officers from the station visited and processed the scene before removing the bodies to the said hospital's mortuary.
Both the motor vehicle and motorcycle were impounded at Athi River police station awaiting inspection.
Police have launched investigations into the accident.
