A driver attached to Kasipul National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) was on Tuesday arraigned over the alleged murder of former bodyguard to ex-Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.
Kennedy Ogalo Osano on Tuesday appeared in Oyugis court over the alleged murder Evans Okoda at Rawinji area in Oyugis town on the night of May 2 and 3.
Okoda, 35, was found dead in the compound of his rented house in Oyugis town early Friday.
He sustained serious injuries on the head and his right fingers chopped off.
Detectives led by Rachuonyo South Subcounty Criminal Discrimination Investigations Officer David Kirui undertook investigations before the arrest of Osano as the suspect.
In his presentation at the court, Kirui said data from phone calls of Osano allegedly linked him with the murder.
“The suspect made a lot of phone calls between May 2 afternoon and 3 am on May 3 in Oyugis town. The calls’ data linked Osano with the incident,” Kirui said.
Before Oyugis Resident Magistrate Cynthia Cheruiyot, the police officer said they had gathered data whose analysis is yet to be completed.
He sought more time to continue holding Osano to enable them to complete their investigations.
“We appeal for more time to enable us to continue with the data analysis. This will enable us to complete the ongoing investigations,” Kirui said.
Prosecutor Churchil Ogema also urged the court to grant the DCI more time to continue holding Osano.
Ogema argued that the charge is serious and hence requires adequate time to probe the suspect.
“The matter is of public interest and the case is still under investigation. Let the court grant the investigation officers more time,” Ogema said.
The magistrate granted the DCI seven more days to continue holding the suspect as they completed investigations.
The suspect is expected to be given further direction afterwards.
“The application of seven days to continue holding the suspect by the DCI is granted. The case will be mentioned on May 14 when further directions will be given,” Cheruiyot said.
The order will enable police to continue to hold him at Oyugis police station.
