Invite FBI if need be, Wandayi says on Ogolla death probe

Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi has reiterated ODM boss Raila Odinga's calls for thorough and transparent investigations into the death of Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla. 

Wandayi said if need be, agencies like the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) or any other recognised foreign entity should be invited to assist local authorities to probe the cause of the fatal crash.

Ogolla died Thursday afternoon following a tragic helicopter accident in Elgeyo Marakwet County which also claimed the lives of nine other military officers at Sindar area. 

Ogolla became the shortest serving CDF having been in office for slightly under one year.

The National Assembly Minority leader said they know the entire country is in a mourning but the state of mourning is more pronounced in Luoland as the community is most aggrieved by Ogolla's passing.

"For the first time in 60 years since independence, that's when a Luo became the Chief of Defence Forces and did not work even for a year. Therefore, as the people of Luo we are within our right to demand justice, not only to Ogolla family but the Luo nation in general," Wandayi said.

While emphasising the need for transparent and thorough investigations, Wandayi said the Luo community has lost many sons of in the past but no answers were given.

"For now we demand that thorough, independent and expeditious investigations are undertaken to unearth what caused the death of Ogolla and his colleagues," he said.

Wandayi was speaking Friday in Kisumu during the launch of ODM party membership recruitment drive in Mamboleo, Kajulu Ward within Kisumu East Constituency.

He was accompanied by other leaders, delegates and supporters in the drive.

The Minority leader reiterated the importance of strengthening the party at the grassroots level.

He urged young Kenyans to join the ODM Party and play their role in shaping the destiny of the nation."

"I'm happy with what I have witnessed within this constituency and Kisumu as a whole. Let's all maintain the togetherness and work towards strengthening the party," Wandayi.
