7,000 learners given Sh61m bursary in Kasipul constituency

Some 7,641 students from poor and vulnerable families in Kasipul constituency were Thursday handed bursary funds worth Sh61 million courtesy of NG-CDF.

The students who learn in secondary, tertiary colleges and universities received the funds to cushion them from being sent home for fees.

In the bursary distribution, most of the students got an average of Sh10,000 each.

Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were together with Governor Gladys Wanga led a ceremony of distributing the cheques at Agoro Sare Primary School in Oyugis town.

Were said his leadership had increased substantial amount of bursaries to promote education in the constituency.

“The committee set aside a huge percentage of the NG-CDF funds for bursary to ensure children from the less fortunate families go to school without interruption,” Were said.

The MP said the bursaries are expected to create enabling environment for learning and will improve the quality of education that the students will acquire.

The MP urged residents not to mix politics with development and to instead focus on development projects to enable them realize a change in their living standards.

“There are some people who walk in villages with petty politics of parliamentary seat. Let residents avoid such people because it is time for implementation of development projects,” he added.

Wanga said investing in education is the only way to nurture a productive population in future.

She said the bursary funds will nurture the future generations that will contribute significantly to the economy in future.

“Investing in education will enable children to have people who will contribute significantly to the economy in future. Any leader who invests in education demonstrates commitments of serving the welfare of their people,” Wanga said.

She said her administration is also prioritising education through providing bursaries and scholarships for students.

The governor announced that her administration is putting measures in place to improve ECDE classrooms in the county.

“Many ECDE classrooms are in bad conditions but my government is putting modalities in place to ensure they are constructed to meet the required standards,” Wanga said.

Wanga urged Kasipul residents to cooperate with their MP to enhance harmony in implementation of development projects in the constituency.

She also encouraged co-operation among elected to enable residents benefit from development projects.

“Elected leaders should work closely in undertaking development projects which transform lives of the people. I’m ready to cooperate with all leaders to improve lives of  our people,” she said.
